HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Dubbing it "Woofstock" to celebrate 10 years, the Harbor Humane Society is hosting its annual fundraising party this week.
Ales for Tails runs 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday at The Shops at Westshore on James Street near US-131 near Holland.
"It's our biggest fundraiser of the year and raises significant funds for animals in need, for both Ottawa County and all around West Michigan," Harbor Humane Society Executive Director Jen Self-Aulgur said.
The humane society promised a "huge parking lot party" with a "groovy theme." There will be live music, a big silent auction (also available online), wine pull, gift card pull and bourbon pull (new this year). You can tie dye a bandana for your pet, get your cartoon drawn or make a flower crown or a bracelet. There will be adult beverages, including from New Holland Brewing and Tito's Handmade Vodka.
"And, of course, we'll have some animals there," Self-Aulgur said. "We'll have some puppies for petting."
You can't adopt at the event, but you can start filling out an application there.
Self-Aulgur said summer is always busy for the shelter and it is "overwhelmed with the amount of dogs, cats, a lot of kittens that we have." She said the shelter is looking for fosters for the kittens.
"That's a really great way to get involved and to have the kitten experience without necessarily the long-term care experience," she said. "Funds from Ales for Tails helps us to provide everything for our foster families and to make sure that these animals are getting the best start possible."
Ales for Tails tickets cost $30 if you get them online beforehand or $35 at the door. VIP tables are also available.
Harbor Humane's fundraising goal for the year is $120,000.
