GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week’s featured adoptable pets from the Kent County Animal Shelter are a relaxed rooster and a lovable dog.

"A lot of people, they think of the animal shelter, they usually think cats and dogs. But we actually get a lot of different variety of species of animals at the Kent County Animal Shelter, including chickens, ducks, peacocks, sheep," Shelter Director Angela Hollinshead told News 8.

Russell Crowe is a smaller breed of rooster who was picked up by animal control.

"We've had him for some time now and we haven't had an owner come for him," Hollinshead said. "So now he is ready to find a new flock of his very own."

Described as "pretty relaxed," Russell Crowe would do well with hens.

"If you have other roosters, it might not work well," Hollinshead noted. "Sometimes roosters tend to not get along with each other."

Dawn, described as "the most perfect little petite girl," is a 45-pound American Staffordshire terrier who has been waiting more than two months for a home. Her brother got adopted a few weeks ago, and Dawn would love to find a family of her own, too.

At 6 years old, she's no longer a puppy, but she still knows how to have fun. The shelter says Dawn would be a great family dog: She loves kids and has also done well living with cats.
