GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week's featured adoptable pets from the Kent County Animal Shelter include the shelter's second longest-term resident.
Staff say they "just don't know why" Millie, a 4-year-old American Staffordshire terrier, hasn't found a forever home after 283 days at the shelter — "far too long." She is described as sweet, active and smart. She knows how to sit, shake, speak and wait. She loves to hike, play fetch and lie around outside. She also enjoys meeting new people and snuggling.
"Millie is more than ready to find her new family; she deserves a home of her own. Stop by and meet this sweet girl today!" the shelter wrote.
The shelter says Millie would do best in a home without any other cats or dogs.
You can also consider Wendy, a 2-year-old shepherd mix. She's smart and food-motivated, and knows how to shake. She loves to get her exercise with a good run, does well on a leash and enjoys riding in the car.
"She's just a really nice joy of a dog," shelter director Angela Hollinshead said, adding Wendy is "very patient."
Wendy and Millie are among 80 dogs currently housed at the shelter, many of which are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and ready for adoption.
"So if you're looking to adopt, now is the time," Hollinshead said.
