GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — This week's featured adoptable pets from the Kent County Animal Shelter are two dogs who want to find their people.
Monica is a 7-year-old Labrador-American Staffordshire terrier mix. She was described as sweet, social and playful.
"She still has a lot of play in her personality," shelter director Angela Hollinshead said. "She's very jumpy when she want to be. ... If you have food in your hand off guard and she wants it, she's going to let you know."
She does well on trips with volunteers, but she can also be very relaxed and a couch potato.

Or you could choose Jupiter, a 3-year-old American Staffordshire terrier who had been at the shelter for 86 days as of Friday. The shelter described him as "chill," saying he loves tennis balls and hanging out with his people for petting. He gets along well on walks with other dogs.

The shelter has been at or near capacity for several weeks, it says.
“We anticipate that we’re probably going to be at or near capacity for the remainder of the summer,” Hollinshead told News 8 earlier this week. “This is not just a Kent County issue. This is a state and a national crisis with shelters right now. A lot of shelters are seeing really high intake numbers. Adoptions are a little bit lower than what we would expect for this time of year, so it’s something that I think a lot of organizations right now are struggling with.”
To help ease the pressure, the shelter is offering an adoption special on dogs: fees are $50 through the end of July.
